3 out of 2 people have trouble with fractions ??    ???

Speaking of fractions-answer me this: You want a shirt that costs $97. You borrow $50 from mom and $50 from dad. 50+50=100. You buy the shirt, and have $3 left. You give dad $1 and mom 1$ and keep the other dollar for yourself. Now you owe mom $49 and dad $49. $49+$49= $98 plus your $1 is $99. Where is the missing dollar? ???

Hahaha. You already paid mom and dad back one dollar each, so now you only owe them $49 + $49 = $98. ? The other dollar you "kept" you had anyway, because it's one of the original $100 you borrowed. You've paid back $2 and still owe $98. There is no missing dollar.

That problem is a great example of the power of sophistry. (Which the dictonary defines as "A subtle, tricky, superficially plausible, but generally fallacious method of reasoning".) I love those! I had to wrack my brain till it clicked into place.
