TOPIC: Steel framing

Hi everybody
Had an inspection on Sunday typical raised ranch. Had ground rods installed on each side. Went inside system was grounded to cold water supply. I said wow two ground backups. I went into the attic steel framing for rafters. I have not seen this in my area at all! I put the puzzle together that those ground rods are probably part of the ground system for the steel framing. I referred it out because i am not very familar with these type of systems since when do you steel rafter framing. Has anybody ever came across this

Nope but I've seen many commercial buildings be built that way around here.  Never seen a residential though.

Steel framing hasn't really taken off in the residential market due to the engineering involved in building the structure. The costs involved in designing a steel framed house are a deterrent. These costs are easily absorbed into a businesses budget. Since wood framing is the "Industry Standard" for residential, structural design costs are still present but greatly reduced.

I was totally suprised when I went into the attic. well next time when I see like two ground rods on the outside it will give me a heads up. Well I would say that at least the framing will for sure survive a tornado
